Where are the Sails???

Now that the cold fronts are coming through, the Sails have been scarce.

We have managed to catch one here and one there, but not like we expect this time of year.

Friday (12/13/02) we went out of Port Everglades. The wind was 10 to 15 out of the SE. We fished our way to the SE and found a few Dolphin (Mahi-mahi). Most were 6 to 10 pounds. We were in 500 feet of water and a few weeds were scattered about.

Then we found a net with a buoy attached. On the first pass the Dolphin came from all angles. The fish were from 5 lbs. to 22 lbs. We caught one that had a fresh scar on its side. We didn’t think much about it until this 400 lb Blue Marlin came out from under the net. We tried to get the Marlin to bite a dead Dolphin, as that’s all we had. We put out some ballyhoo as we tried to get a big rod and lure ready. We looked back and here was the Marlin chasing our small dead ballyhoo. After a couple of good looks at the bait the Marlin disappeared. What a rush and a site to remember.

We ended up catching 22 Dolphin. We released a few and kept a few.

The Swordfish are still biting at night.

Kingfish are scarce and the wrecks still have a few Amberjacks and Bull Sharks on them.
