Fort Lauderdale, FL - Offshore

Capt. David Ide

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Sharks, Sharks and more Sharks!

Threshers Sharks, Mako Sharks and Hammerheads are really biting this week. All big Sharks, from 300 to 500 lbs!

They have been biting in 350’ of water. A little current is necessary. We have been using Bonita’s and King Mackerel for bait. One bait on the bottom and one down about 200’. Then we put the kite out with live baits for Sailfish, Dolphin and other smaller sharks.

The Kingfish and Bonita’s have been biting real good trolling and live-baiting on the reefs. Sailfish have been biting the live baits too.

Dolphin have been scarce and the Wahoo’s are rare too.

Swordfish have been biting real good. We went out last Thursday night (3/20/03). On our first drift we caught one out of two bites. We released the fish as it was under 80 lbs.

On our second drift we had a double hookup. After a 10 minute fire drill we managed to catch both fish. A few minutes later a fish about 150 lbs swam next to the boat. We fed it a squid and fought the fish for 10 minutes before pulling the hooks. Darn!

3 for 5 on the Swordfish and back at the dock by 2 AM. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Spring fishing is still great. It’s a real good time of year to get out fishing!

Catch-em-up,

Captain Kunta
