Sailfish for Big Al

Capt. Mike Johnson
January 12, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

January fourth brought good friend and repeat customer Al from Chicago and his 9 year old son Matt and his wife Linda fishing with us for hopefully some good sailfishing. The fishing the past week has been nothing short of awful, lots of long days with few bites. Al however always seems to have lady luck on his side. His wife Linda caught her first sailfish with us last year and were hoping to get Matt and Al's today. We put the kite up in about 160 feet of water our live goggle eyes spashing enticingly on the surface. They did so for quite some time, we moved deep and still nothing. Then the radio came to life we heard of a couple of sailfish inside of us so we wound everything up and ran back into 150 feet of water. We no sooner had the baits out when Matt hooked up with his first sailfish. @5 minutes later and the beautiful fish was released at boatside after a few good pics. We put the baits back out and soon had a monster sailfish on the line Big Al took to the chair, we had to clear everything fast as we were osing alot of line. We chase the fish in reverse while Al kept up with the fish after some amazing jumps at the boat we got the leadere, the fish and the pics. Great job Al and Matt!
