Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have had a bunch of sailfish hanging around over the past two weeks off fort lauderdale and has kept our reef alive with some otherwise hit or miss fishing. We have been averaging more than 1 sail a trip and caugh up to 5/day in the last two weeks. This is not usual this time of year, and I usuall can't buy a sail in september but this year they have hung around.
On the drift we have also caught kingfish, though not in great numbers we have been catching 2-10 per trip. Kingfish are speedsters of the reef and are a great fight on the tackle that we are using.
Mixed in with the kingfish are bonitas and while they don't taste well they are great fighters. When the blue water has pushed in there are small blackfin tunas mixed in. They have responded really well to live chumming with pilchards and are really fun on light tackle.
The wahoos haven't really made a great showing this year. The few we have caught have been on odd days and they the next day the blue water is gone and so is he bite. They have been from 20-40lbs when we have caught them but hopefully they make a good showing in the next month.
Dolphin fishing has been heating up and that is where we have been spending a good amount of our time on our fishing charters. Offshore both on weedlines and random floating objects have been holding fish. Deeper below the structure are a good amount of wahoo. These are your smaller variety of wahoos some call weehoos but they can be numerous and are ranging from 5-20lbs.
Swordfishing has slowed off fort lauderdale but that is the normal pattern...1 week hot the next week not. The best bet for swordfish is if the weather is right to give it a shot because they could turn on anytime. Boats have caught fish up to 525lbs in the last week so you never know when your shot at a big one is up.
We have been spending the most of time on our charters bottom fishing. Targeting snappers is a great way to spend your ft. lauderdale charters. It is a true mono a mano way to fish where its up to you to catch the fish...you drop the bait, you feel the bite, you set the hook, you fight the fish. We have been averaging 3-4 muttons per trip as well as yellowtail, lane, and other snapper cousins. We have also caught cobia, kingfish, and sailfish this week while bottom fishing.
Give me a call if you would like to go fishing. Captain Ryan. 954-445-1732
