Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past week the fishing has changed daily. The key to finding the fish has been finding the current. We have fished from Fort Lauderdale to Palm Beach to the north and Ft. Lauderdale to Miami to the south, again the key is current. Last weekend we strugged saturday for a bite, with only a few kingfish and bonitas as well as a dozen spinner shark bites on the beach. Sunday it was sailfish and dolphin in the same areas with just a little more current. The good news is that dolphin fishig has improved everyday, with most days catching 3-5 five fish and the big schools of kingfish are sitting from st.lucie to palm beach and have been starting to send small schools through past Ft. Lauderdale all week. We fished one day this week to the nort and caught over 40 kingfish with 12 of those in the 20-38lb range. and the rest from 8-20lbs. There are most likely bigger fish mixed in we just weren't able to find the bigger baits to attract those bites. We couldn't get more than two baits in the water, fishing goggle eyes.
To the south we have seen similar action with the addition of a few more sailfish shots and some early season blackfin tunas. The blackfins came through thick this past weekend but seem to have mellowed this week. They typically show in numbers in the second week of april so they should be here to stay we just need to find the right current that is holding them.
Offshore daytime swordfshing remains hot if you are looking to target them give us a call. Fishing for swordfish in Fort Lauderdale in 1500-2000 ft. of water gives you shot at dolphin and other species of the deep leaving it a constant guessing game while fighting your catch.
The water is almost warm enough for the cobias to move out to the wrecks so that could happen any day now. And with the season opening of snappers there have been some good catches of vermies at night.
Now is a great time to fish, give us call.
