Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

SailFish SailFish and More SailFish off Fort Lauderdale
March 6th, 2012
Today we had one of those days where yes it was rough and rainy but the fish were snapping.
I must start out by saying that due to the rain I did not get any pictures that came out and I don't have all the names of our anglers today but all the same it was a great day of fishing aboard the Hooked Up.
We started out fishing with Allen and his daughter she brought along her boy friend witch once again I am sorry I don't have all the names but all the same we set out our kites with live baits suspended from them and within seconds we had a sailfish on. We fought this fish for a good 25 min and the fish finally spit the hook on us 20 feet behind the boat. (RATS)
Ok so right back out the kites went and BAM another sail no 2 sails at the same time. Talk about excitement and remember it was a good 5 to 6 foot waves while all this was going on.
We had Allen on one fish while his daughter was on the other. This time we did manage to get both fish to the boat.
Soon after that yep we caught another sail. I believe we ended up wit 3 sails in the morning and 2 more sails during our after noon trip.
Talk about Sails everywhere!!
The bad news is this kind of fishing just does not happen everyday but when it does WOW what a blast.
Allen thanks again for fishing with us and sorry about the pictures and names.

We went right to kite fishing and landed a nice Mahia Mahia and one 47-inch barracuda.
As we got back to the dock we picked up Chris from Boston, Tina from Atlanta, Mark, Eddie, Vince and Wayne all from Atlanta Ga.
Once again we went right to kite fishing and Tina landed a nice Mahia Mahia while Chris topped the day off with a big 88-inch sailfish.

Fishing for Big Sharks and Small Tunas aboard Hooked Up
March 4th, 2012
Today we started out fishing with Nicole and Rich from Orlando Florida.
It started out with them and 4 others on this trip but as it turned out the other 4 just could not make it and Nicole and Rich both sure PAID the price for them not showing up. Now I know what your thinking when I say they paid the price but no I don't mean $.
Here is how they paid!
We went out to 350 feet of water and set out our 2 kites with 2 live baits suspended from one kite and another live bait and one shark bait suspended from the other. We also sent a shark bait half way down and last but not least a shark bait on the bottom.
Ok the trap was set and now we just needed some kind of a sea monster to come along a take a bite.
Will watch out for what you ask for cause it just might happen!!
Our deep rod with the bait on the bottom bent over and line started screaming off the reel.
Rich jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After 10 or 15 min Rich was done so Nicole jumped in and after 15 more min we needed or should I say they needed more anglers to help (This is where they paid in a big way). Needless to say this turned out to be a very long back and forth tug a war! But they hung in there and after an hour or more up popped this 13 foot plus sea monster! A monster Thresher Shark. Watch out what you ask for!!javascript:insert_image('

Nicole and Rich hope you guys got a good nights sleep because I know you guys were whipped! (LOL)
As we pulled back to the dock we had Lee from Michigan, Doreen and John from Coconut Creek Florida eager to give their luck a shot at some deep sea fishing off the coast of fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
This afternoon we were not looking for a sea monster but looking for some action to keep everyone into it.
So we went trolling and ended up catching 8 small black fin tunas and 4 nice bonitos.

Thanks again to all 5 of our anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked up.

Great trolling and bottom fishing aboard Hooked Up off Ft Lauderdale
March 3rd, 2012
Today we started out fishing with Nick, Fonnie, Dickerson and Sam all from Los Angles California.
We stated out trolling the reef and just out side the reef with 2-planner boards running about 45 feet down along with 3 baits skipping across the surface.
I must say that trolling was good today with us landing 4 black fin tunas and a nice Wahoo.
We ended our morning trip with dropping a live bait down 210 feet on a shipwreck just to see if there was any fish around the wreck. As it turned out the second the live bait hit the bottom the rod bent over line started peeling off the reel and we were Hooked Up. Sam jumped in the chair and the fight was on. After a gulling 10 min tug a war up popped this monster golden amber jack.
Nice going Sam.

Ok if it worked once we figured what the heck try it again.
And once again once the bait hit the bottom BAM Hooked Up again and this time Dickerson jumped in the chair and once again a nice amber jack.

As we got back to the dock we had Joyce, Beth, Emily, Dante and Cole all from down here in South Florida eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.
While we never did catch any amber jacks this afternoon we did manage to put 6 black fin tunas in the box.
Thanks again to all of our anglers for fishing with us today off the coast of South Florida aboard the Hooked Up.

Fishing Fort Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up Off Fort Lauderdale
March 1st, 2012
Today we started out March fishing with some guys down on spring break from parts unknown. (Sorry never got anyone's names)
I do know that we had to come in early around 11:00am because one of the guys was ether sick of fishing or had a bit too much to drink the night before. (LOL)
All the same fishing was slow but we did manage to catch a small black fin tuna witch I carved up and made us all a nice sushi lunch.
We did have a big sailfish on but once he started jumping he managed to flip us the fin and spit the hook. (RATS)
However at the very end of our trip we landed this nice 14 pound Mahia Mahia.

While it might not have been the greatest day of catching we did have a great time fishing all the same.

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
