Sailfishing is Hot!

Capt. Cary Hanna
May 15, 2008
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

More so then the Dolphin, Sailfish are making a great appearance on the reef. Live bait has been the key for us, preferably the Goggle Eyez.

Temperatures are warming up and with the lack of rain, the water clarity has been very clean. Early mornings has the Kingfish biting and if you can get away from them long enough you can get the Sailfish to pile up on a bait. Tom Golan and his crew had a good time catching 1 out of 2 Sailfish. We had to chase down our fish as he showed no signs of giving up. This fish was fresh and had lots of energy. The Sailfish put on an arial show that was incredible. We also lost a fish that had almost spooled us if the hook didnt come unglued. We were trolling our live baits when the line popped off it's clip. We let him eat the bait for a few seconds then winded down on him and set the hook. Once Tom got tight alls you heard was zzzzziiiiiinnnnggggg as the line peeled off the spool. I hate it when we miss a good fish.

Big Hammerhead Sharks are still roaming the offshore waters and can make for a long battle. Come on out and persue the fish of a lifetime. You never know what is going to come up on the end of your line.

See you on the rip,

Captain Cary Hanna
