September Bait Run

Capt. Mike Johnson
September 17, 2009
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

September fishing in Fort Lauderdale can be real hit or miss, depending on when the bait primarily mullet, pilchards and sardines begin to run near and offshore. This Septenber so far has been great. King fish and bonitas our usual summer denziens of the deep continue smash baits while troling the reef, mixed in however have been quite a few nice blackfin tunas. Weather is still calm, though hot and so is the swordfishing. Our last swordfish trip we got tied up with a 300# blue marlin on the way to the swordfish grounds. Way to go Jim. Mahi mahi have begun to show in better numbers after a spotty early season, we caught three yesterday one on the troll and two out of the kite, all real nice gaffers.
