Tough Conditions Send Us Shallower for Kings and Ceros

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Several of our previous trips saw some nice fish come over the gunnel. This past weekend we had some very cold weather and we expected an excellent sailfish bite would accompany the cold front – wrong! The wind remained out of the northwest, instead of swinging around to the northeast, and together with a less than desirable south current, we could not get a single sailfish to bite. The wind and current conditions just made it tough to fish.

We tried fishing a wreck in 250' and dropped some live google eyes to the bottom. We had a few bites and caught 2 amberjack and lost 2 other mystery fish. So at the urging of our customer, we set our sights on smaller game. We headed in to shallower water between 25' to 70 ' and put up the kite. We loaded the kite with live pilchards and caught a lots of bonito. We also caught kingfish and some nice cero mackerel - very tasty!

The weather report says the wind will switch to the northeast and that will improve the fishing in our area!
