Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a great trip this week with some great guys from Ohio, mike decided to charter the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale florida with a group of his high school friends for a deep sea fishing charter, we headed out at 8am sharp in search for some dinner fish and possibly a shark, we started out trolling the deep in search of blackfin tuna, this year has been one of the best years I have seen for tuna fishing in the Fort Lauderdale area, almost every trip we have been limiting out on blackfin tuna!
We immediately began to catch some nice sized blackfin tuna averaging around 10lbs or so, we would quickly limit out on tuna the bite was outstanding. Mike and his friends had asked me if it would be possible to catch a shark during a charter I told them there is a very good chance so we decided to set up to shark fish, using bigger tackle then normal consisting of 50 and 80 wide tackle, we decided to use one of the tuna for bait that we had caught, I rigged up a rod for the surface as well as a rod for the bottom, I used a filet of the tuna as a surface bait and we used the rest of the tuna for a bottom bait, after deploying the baits it took around 15 to 20 min for a bite, the bite came on the surface bait and we immediately pit the boat in forward to set the hook, mike was the angler and we put him in the fighting chair to do some serious angling on the fish, after a 30 min battle mike would catch a beautiful hammerhead shark measuring around 76inches, we wold take a few pictures boat side and release the fish unharmed. Heading back to the dock spirits where high and everyone had a great smile, mike thanked us for a great charter and told us he would be back next time he was in the Fort Lauderdale area!
If your in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking for a sport fishing charter check out the YB Normal
