The Lady Pamela II set out for some sharkfishing and bottom fishing in the afternoon of January 19th. Catching a shark was the first order of business and our anglers muscled up a beefy 8 1/2 foot bull shark. Moving on to bottom fishing we caught a few grey tilefish, some vermillion snappers and even snagged a small kingfish that nailed one of the baits on its way to the bottom.
Sharkfishing was the deep-sea fishing order of business on January 20th during a four hour afternoon charter on the LP II. Our customers from New York wanted to try to catch some big game sharks, so after catching some fresh bonitos we brought out the 130 pound tackle went out to 350 feet of water off of Fort Lauderdale in search of a toothy predator. Baits were set on the bottom, at mid-depth, and at the surface. After about an hour and a half of patient waiting the reel with the bait on the bottom started to click. It was a slow just like in the Jaws movie, then it took off. We had hooked into a monster shark that took nearly an hour to get to the boat. The brute finally surfaced about 50 feet behind the boat. A huge dorsal fin popped up first, telling us it was a big hammerhead shark. Great fight and great catch guys!
On January 21, Mrs. Chang from New York City came out fishing with us with her 10-year-old son on a four hour private charter. They were real troopers as it was a little bouncy outside the inlet. We kitefished for sailfish using live goggleyes. Fishing was slow but we tagged and released one nice Atlantic sailfish before we had to come in. We kept a few lines in the water on the way in and were able to add to the catch with a couple of Spanish mackerel right in the inlet!
