Shark Fishing in Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today on the YB Normal deep sea fishing charter out of Fort Lauderdale Florida we had some repeat customers that had fished with us a few months prior, bruno and his dad kent from canada, they had chartered us for a morning deep sea fishing adventure, when they went fishing before with us the weather was very different from today in the past trip they had done with us the wind was blowing from the east at 20mph and the seas where 4-6 foot swells, but today was a beautiful morning with glass calm seas and light breeze, we statred at 7am this morning leaving sharp, we headed out to the whistle bouy out of port everglades inlet which is only 1 mile from fort lauderdale beach and located in 100 feet of water. We stated out with some surface baits of small feathers plain rigged on light flurocarbon leaders and 1 seawitch with a strip, we also had 2 planners down to give us some more options, the fishng was very good we caught some nice kingfish averaging aroung 10lbs or so each we landed 6 king mackeral and 1 large bonito, we then headed offsore to around 700 feet of water which is only 3.5 miles off fort lauderdale beach, we were looking for something a little different maybe tuna or wahoo or dolphin we gave it about an hour offshore with no luck so then we decided to head inshore and fish for sharks, we set up with 3 baits a surface bait a middle bait and a bottom bait we used some of the kingfish that we had caught as well as the bonito, after patiently waiting for 30 min we had gotten a very large bite on our bottom rod, bruno was the angler and boy was he in for it, he fought this fish for over an hour sweat pouring down his face and veins showing in his arms, when we finally landed the fish after an hour it was a large great hammerhead shark around 11 foot a fish of a lifetime! definitely a trophy fish, we took some great pictures and let him go to fight another day, highfives and smiles and pictures to prove it we headed back to the dock right on Fort Lauderdale beach and we congratulated bruno on his awsoome catch and shared some fish stories and laughs until next time another great fishing charter on the YB Normal out of Fort Laudedale!
