Skipjacks for Fun and Mahi for Dinner

Capt. Mario Cote
October 24, 2013
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

On Saturday, we fished with 7-year-old Jake of Ft. Lauderdale. We ran out of Hillsboro Inlet with some live pilchards and started fishing in 150'. We only managed a single skipjack after a hour so we decided to go further offshore. We found some floating debris 950' off Hillsboro and caught 2 more skipjacks, 2 small wahoo (released), and caught a few mahi. Turned out to be a really nice day on the water.

On Sunday afternoon, we fished with Jessica and Chad. They requested to catch mahi so we added offshore again. On our way out, in 800', we spotted some skipjack activity, made a few casts with jigs and caught 3 skipjacks. Afterwards, we continued further offshore and made it to the Steeple in 950' and again we found a big log. We caught a few bar jacks and a few mahi that our guests kept for dinner.
