John Hausauer and son, John, Jr., along with friends, Sierra Engesser, Boyce Reede and Melissa Reede all from South Dakota chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were from the northeast with partly cloudy skies and 85 degrees.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling north of Fort Lauderdale along the reef in 150 ft. of water with two deep plainers and four surface lines. The first few fish the anglers caught were Kingfish on the deep plainer line. We continued trolling and caught another five Kingfish.

Still heading towards the north of Fort Lauderdale about 5 miles away from the inlet, the two rigger lines came down – DOUBLE HEADER SAILFISH! Father and son were the anglers of the Sailfish, and they both did a great job in reeling in their catches. What a spectacular view in watching the two Sailfish jump out of the water multiple times. The two Sailfish were brought to the side of the boat for picture taking and were released back into the waters to swim free.

Next, we headed towards a sunken wreck in 310 ft. of water and dropped a live bait to the bottom of the wreck. After a short period, the rod bent over and the fish was on. Sierra was the angler, and she reeled in a 35 lb. Amberjack – great job! We now started heading back south towards Fort Lauderdale in deeper waters and caught five Black Fin Tunas.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
