Steve Baker, along with his son, John, from Connecticut did some great father-son bonding when they chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. John was interested in doing some Shark fishing so we planned on Shark fishing later on in the trip.

Twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, both with sea witches in front of double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos. White trolling the reefs, father and son took turns bringing in their catches and they wound up with four Kingfish and four Bonitos.

Well, let's go do some Shark fishing now – maybe we can get lucky and get you a Shark, John. We headed out to 350 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale and set up for Shark fishing. We put out one surface bait, one midrange and one bottom bait. As we waited for his arrival, both father and son were talking about how much they were enjoying their vacationing and fishing chartering in Fort Lauderdale. One ½ hour passed by, and the fat lady was ready to sing with five minutes left in the fishing charter. All of a sudden the bottom rod bent over – hooked up. The line peeled off the 80 International Reel. John was our angler – finally his wish came true – he placed himself in the fighting chair to do battle. The tug of war went on – finally the fish broke the surface – a Bull Shark estimated to weigh 200-250 lbs. Pictures were taken and the fish was released.

We were now forty minutes late getting back to the dock, but mission was accomplished. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
