Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Joe Florea from Aruba Construction and friends, Mike Cupp, Rick Muller and Caio Silva chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Joe, Mike, and I have been friends for the past 20 years, and we have fished in the Bahamas and Fort Lauderdale and have caught many different species of fish. Today was a first for Joe and I to do some day time Swordfishing – the phase of the moon was right, the conditions were perfect and off we went.
An hour and a half after leaving the dock, we were out 18 miles in Swordfish grounds off of Fort Lauderdale. Mark, our mate, let the line out with fifteen lbs of led on the electric reel in 1,750 feet of water. While we were waiting for the enemy's bite, we discussed our fishing expeditions and the good times we had in the past and will continue to have. Two hours later Mark yells, "We are getting a bite." as the rod tip bounced up and down a few times. The fight was on!!!! Rick jumped into the fighting chair as the tug of war began – line coming in, line going out – for fifteen minutes, then the line went slack. At that point, I realized the outcome that the fish pulled the hook.
We went back to the same area and reset again. It did not take too long before the rod tip started bouncing again – hooked up – as Rick hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. As the tug of war went on, most of the time line going out and little line coming in – an hour and forty-five minutes later I could see color rising from the deep blue indigo water, as the Swordfish broke to the surface. Mark wired the fish in, gaffed it and put the Swordfish into the boat. Cheers rang out!!!! The overall length of the Swordfish was 89".
With another 2 hours left in our trip, we reset again. This time it was Mike's turn. Again the rod tip bounced up and down – hooked up on the 3rd Swordfish. The tug of war went on – this one was a stalemate for awhile until we started to retrieve line while the Swordfish came up from the depth of the ocean. Unfortunately, line exited the reel and the hook was pulled.
With smiles on everyone's faces due to an exiting fishing excursion and a successful Swordfish catch, the anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
