Sport Fishing Fort Lauderdale Sailfish

Capt. David Zsak

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

A group of employees from Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale decided to have a Holiday party aboard the Happy Day Today with the Topshotfishing team by doing some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. We had winds out of the east at 12 mph with seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the mid 80's.

In the past few days, Sailfish action has been very good. So we stopped at T&T Bait to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes for Sailfishing and off we went. I headed towards a wreck in 158 ft. of water north of Fort Lauderdale. We put out two kites and two live Goggle Eyes from each kite with one live Goggle Eye with a spin on lead from the rigger.

A black shadow appeared on the right short kite bait – Sailfish!!! Hooked Up!!! The Sailfish exited the water immediately tail-walking towards the boat. Barbara was our first angler and jumped into the fighting chair to subdue the Sailfish. After a ten-minute battle the Sailfish did not want to play anymore, and he threw the hook. We reset again over the same wreck. This time the right long kite bait was attacked by a Sailfish as his dorsal and bill came out of the water chasing the live Goggle Eye in circle. Finally, the Sailfish grabbed the bait and we were hooked up. Richard was our angler and he positioned himself in the fighting chair to enjoy his first Sailfish thrill. Twenty minutes later, Richard won the battle as Dave, our mate, brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat for picture taking and release.

The fat lady was signing so it was time to bring in the lines and head back to the dock as the party carried on with beer chasers and fireballs in the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
