Glenn and Dakota Higgins, father and son from up state New York, chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As the Higgins' boarded the boat, they were welcomed by the Topshotfishing team. We had a perfect chamber of commerce day with blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70's – what a perfect day for father and son bonding.

Twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were fishing in Fort Lauderdale at the sea buoy, which is 1.8 miles from shore in 120 ft. of water. If you venture off a ¼ of a mile from there, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a blue mylar sea witch and the other with a pink and blue sea witch - both with double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits with went with four Ballyhoos,

As we trolled the reefs, our first bite was on the plainer rod which produced a nice size Kingfish – Dakota was the angler while Glenn recorded the action with pictures. From there the right rigger came down – Mahi-mahi!!! The left rigger came down – Mahi-mahi!!! A double header as father and son were enjoying their excitement while bringing in their Mahi-mahi's. Dave, our mate, gaffed the first Mahi-mahi, a bull, weighing 24 lbs followed by the cow weighing 21 lbs. We kept trolling and picked up more Kingfish and Mahi-mahi's.

With a total of seven Kingfish and five Mahi-mahi's, it was now time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock. What a great experience for father and son to enjoy this moment in time.
