Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just came in from a stellar half day charter aboard the Mary B III. We had a family of 9 charter the boat. The Mary B III is specially set up to run sportfishing charters for groups of up to 15 persons, so it's great for bachelor party groups, large families and even birthday parties.

Well today's trip, we started off trolling the reef. We immediately hit a giant black grouper on the troll, which is a rare fish to catch trolling. Groupers are out of season this time of year so we had to release this one. Stock for next year! We continued trolling for a while and ended up finding a nice frigate bird working an area. We trolled past the circling bird and hit a nice wahoo. Got him in the boat, took a quick pic, put our lines back out and bammo! We hit another wahoo. Captain circles back around and does another pass by our good luck charm bird and we hit a double headed mahi. We kept doing this 5-6 passes and caught 1-2 fish each pass. We had another nice fish on the line which ended up shaking the hook, I can only guess it was a big wahoo.

Great fishing this week in Ft Lauderdale. The action on the reef is improving every day. There are some nice mahi, wahoo and tunas biting out there along with a mix of the regular fish such as kingfish, barracuda and bonitos. This is a great month to go out there to try your luck on some sportfish. If you are 6 or less persons, our 46ft sportfishing boats are perfect for you. If you are 7 persons or more, the Mary B III is one of the few large capacity boats in town that run sportfishing charters and she consistently catches the most fish on her charters. It has something to do with the sounds the engines make with the aluminum hull, the fish are really attracted to her.

Good luck to everyone fishing this week. Hope we catch just as much on our afternoon trip today. Sea you on the water.
