Summer Snapper In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
July 7, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this week we have had some great fishing going on right here in Fort Lauderdale, the temps have been hot but so has the fishing! This week we will start right on the edge of the reef where the mutton snapper bite has still been fantastic like stated in last weeks report, some larger fish in the mix right know almost as big as 20lbs. Anchoring up on structure has been a good choice but current is needed in order to have a solid bite. This week we drifted over a few spots and caught some really nice sized mutton snapper as well as a beautiful bonus black grouper, the fort Lauderdale area isn't really known for grouper but every once in a while we do get lucky and get a nice one, always a treat. On the trolling side there has been some nice sized kingfish biting early in the mornings while fishing planners, mixed in with the kingfish there has been some of the biggest bonito I think I ever ever seen, some as big as 25lbs, if your looking for a fight that is a fish that doesn't give up and fights all the way to the boat. Just a little bit deeper there has been some blackfin tuna around also but early in the morning before the temps start to rise. On deeper areas with structure there has been some vermillion snappers biting very well, most areas around 300 feet or deeper with some sort of structure like rocks or ship wrecks or ledges have been holding quality vermillion snappers, small cut pieces of bonito has been the best way to target them. Last but not least there has been some and I use that world very sparingly mahi mahi offshore right now, not any fish in heavy numbers yet but there has been a few reports of some fish here and there, it is somewhat disappointing because it seems that every year the fish arrive later and later but they will show up soon I just can't pin point when, so be on the look out for that in future reports. Right now the best bet I would say is a early morning trip to beat the heat, afternoon fishing hasn't been great due to the hot temps or rain, some days the afternoons have just been a complete wash out. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches while out of our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Another busy week for us here but we still have availability for the next few weeks, if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time, we would love to have you and show you a great time on the water...
