Summertime Fish are Snapping in Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Mike Johnson
July 12, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale with us today for an all day trip was Kyle, Mark, Pam, Kim and Ashley who were visiting us from Orlando. We started our day at 8 am and met the bait boat to pick up a dozen goggle eyes to do some kite fishing once the wind came up. We then raced out to the ships anchored off of Fort Lauderdale beach and caught a bunch of speedos and blue runners for some wreck fishing. After about 15 minutes we had all we needed. We put out the trolling spread and began our assault on the bonitas and a handful of kingfish for most of the morning on our way down south toward the wrecks. Everyone caught a fish or two before we arrived at the wreck, where we put out a spread of live speedos. We immediately hooked up on a giant barracuda that Mark skillfully brought to boatside for a release. After that release Kyle caught and released one as well. We then pulled the baits toward a deeper wreck and nabbed three big kingfish along the way. Once at the deeper wreck we dropped a speedo down on an 80# rod and were rewarded with a big amberjack that Mark caught as well. After such a great morning the guys wanted to try for sharks, so we popped the kites with the gogs and put out the big baits. We waited and waited but never got the bite. However no one was dissapointed after such a great day, oh yeah we caught some tasty tilefish as well.
