Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Weekly Fishing Report | Don't Tell Mom Sportfishing – South Florida
Summer fishing continues to produce excellent action, and this past week was no exception. Fishing was absolutely red hot early in the week before slowing down slightly as we approached the full moon, which is very common this time of year. Even with the slowdown, there was still plenty of action and a great variety of fish for our anglers.
The Bonita bite was on fire all week long. These hard-fighting fish provided nonstop action, and multiple hook-ups at the same time were not uncommon. When schools of Bonitas moved through, it didn't take long for the rods to start bending. They continue to be one of the most exciting fish to target, especially for anglers who enjoy fast-paced fishing.
Mixed in with the Bonitas were good numbers of Blackfin Tuna and Mahi-Mahi. Most of the Blackfin Tuna and Bonitas were caught trolling deep with 3.5" Drone Spoons, while the Mahi preferred Bonita strips and other surface baits. We even had several Mahi swim right up to the boat while we were bottom fishing, giving us an exciting opportunity to pitch baits and add a few more fish to the box.
Bottom fishing remained another bright spot this week. The Snapper bite continued to be very consistent, and on one trip alone we caught Vermilion Snapper, Yelloweye Snapper, Blackfin Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper. For anglers looking to take home fresh fish for dinner, it's hard to beat the action we're seeing on the bottom right now.
The wrecks also continued to produce, with several nice Barracudas providing exciting battles for anglers looking to tangle with a true predator.
The highlight of the week, however, had to be the massive Goliath Grouper we caught during an 8-hour charter on a wreck north of Port Everglades. After hooking the fish for the first time, it did exactly what Goliaths are famous for—it powered straight back into the wreck and broke us off. Rather than calling it a day, we regrouped, re-rigged, and gave it another shot. On the very next drop, we hooked what we believe was the same fish and this time managed to pull it away from the structure. After an incredible battle, we brought the giant boatside for a few quick photos before safely releasing it. It was an unforgettable catch and a perfect example of why spending a little more time on the water can lead to the fish of a lifetime.
Looking ahead, we expect the fishing to improve again as we move away from the full moon. Summer fishing has been outstanding, with excellent opportunities for Mahi-Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, Bonitas, Snapper, Barracudas, and trophy fish showing up regularly.
And don't let the summer heat keep you off the water. Our boat is fully air-conditioned, and we always provide complimentary bottled water to keep everyone comfortable and hydrated throughout the day.
Whether you're looking to fill the cooler with fresh Snapper and Mahi, enjoy nonstop action with Bonitas and Blackfin Tuna, or chase the trophy fish you've always dreamed of catching, now is an incredible time to fish South Florida.
