Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

There are some nice fish biting off the coast of Fort Lauderdale this week. Our fishing charters have been concentrating on catching the nice run of dolphin we're getting off our coast this week. Mahi are an unpredictable species. We are catching them right in on the reefs this week, in only 100-200ft of water. Trolling is the ideal way to catch them as you can cover a lot of water out there and try different depths, zones, areas, etc... You can catch just about anything trolling the reefs.

Wahoo are the other main species we're targeting out there. They are a gamefish species and argued to be the fastest fish in the ocean. They get really big and even an average size one is 20 pounds. Wahoo are super strong fish that usually take a really strong, initial run when they hit. We're catching them in 100-200 ft of water, same as the mahi. So when we are trolling, we usually fish a deep line for the wahoo bite. Wahoo love to eat deep trolling lures. Some pretty big ones, over 30 pounds were caught over the past few days. February is a great month for wahoo. Wait for the full moon to see the really good wahoo bite.

Kingfish, blackfin tunas, barracuda and sailfish are among the other fish that we're catching this month, although not in as strong of numbers as the mahi and wahoo are biting. These are all strong, sometimes big game fish that also bite in that magic 100-200ft of water depth. This is the month when we start getting a good mix of both action and big fish. As the weather starts to improve, so will the fishing. Good luck to everyone fishing this week. I'll sea ya on the water.
