Weather and Fishing is Improving

Capt. Mario Cote

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

If you remember in my last report, I mentioned that fishing was going to get better and yes it has. The weather has been really nice with some cooler temperatures and a really nice breeze.

Like always, we really like to live bait fish, but a few recent trips we couldn't find or catch enough live bait. On these days, we trolled and found some skipjack tuna. For a few days, we couldn't avoid the skipjacks - catching 10 to 15 fish per trip. We also like to use light tackle to target these hard little fighters - its great fun.

Also in the area, we've seen a few mahi-mahi, but usually fishing for them is a lot better at this time of year. Right now, it's hit or miss on the mahi. The kingfish also are in the area, and a good amount are being caught on the troll, but bigger fish get caught on live bait.

The weather is cooling down and the sailfish are also biting in our local waters. We had some trips with first time saltwater clients and we were lucky enough to catch them their first sailfish!!
