Good weather, good sea conditions, fluctuating catches

Capt. John Logan

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fluctuating catches despite beautiful weather coupled with good current and clean water continue here on our fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale. Numbers of fish remain down but the possibility of catching a good sized fish on any charter is very real. Beautiful Wahoo in the lead photo was pushing 60#. There are others here, mostly around structure in less than 300 feet of water. We had her twin hooked up today only to lose her after 15 minutes of give and take, and Wahoo of that size are exceptional fish here along the south Florida coastline. Some Sailfish continue to be frequenting the reefs and also just off the edge. We have had some anglers hailing from the north who frequently target Muskies and a light tackle Great Barracuda is a similarly constructed fish and it has been fun catching some really good Cudas for these anglers and hearing the their comparisons of the two species. This is catch and release fishing. Cudas are now a closely regulated and monitored fish, with a legal size window to keep one if one wishes, but we let them go after a toothy photo. These big Cudas are on certain shallow water wrecks now and most of the big ones will be moving off of those wrecks very soon. Good fun, good angler conversations. Ford vs Ferrari / Cuda vs Muskie. Now is the time to watch closely inshore for Ballyhoo showering as they are pursued by Sails. Catch, photo and release. Some good Kings will continue to be in there tight too, especially as Spanish Mackerel show inside joining the juvenile Bonito already there as favorable food for them as we close out November. Tight lines, good fishin to all.
