Winter Mixed Bag

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
December 16, 2019
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week on the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale Florida we have had what we like to call a mixed bag of fishing, which means for those of you that don't know what a mixed bag means its basically a mixed catch of species, a bunch of different kinds of fish are biting but but there isn't a steady catch of a certain type of fish. Anyways this week we have had a very good tuna bite In the early morning trips when the sun seems to be overcast, our best baits have been small lure like baby feathers and small spoons trolled on the planner at fast speeds, some of the tuna species the we have been catching are blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna both are great eating either sushi style or cooked. There has also been a nice bite of mahi or dolphin, this time of year when we have easterly winds of over 15mph for a few days in a row it tends to push the dolphin within a few miles of shore, and in fort Lauderdale you don't need to go far offshore to reach deep water, which is great because on a half day deep sea fishing charter you can actually go deep sea fishing, There should be some nice dolphin catches this winter so stay tuned for some great photos, dolphin or mahi are great gamefish because they are colorful and very acrobatic as well as very good table fair.
Night time fishing has been very good for yellowtail snapper as well as mangrove snapper but this time of year can be tricky due to the weather, if the ocean is calm and the winds are light the night time snapper fishing will be best, strong winds and big seas makes it tough to anchor on certain areas that we fish, we have been doing very well on some of the deeper reefs in the 75-90 feet of water on the larger yellowtail snapper up to 3lbs, overall It has been a great week with a nice variety of different fish biting all good eating too! The fishing should continue to get even better and we should see some sailfish showing up very soon!

If your ever in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking to do some deep sea fishing check out the YB Normal Sportfishing you wont regret it!
