When its Cold, Dredge the Deeper Spots

Capt. Ron Kowalyk
December 18, 2014
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Backbay: The bite was a little tougher on the flats with sluggish winter neap tides very low in the morning but it was really chilly so it was no big loss. You however, dredge the creeks, river and docks on the deeper channels for snapper, sheepies, reds, snook and black drum. There was some decent action on the afternoon high tides. Crews that fished the potholes and creek mouths came up with some nice reds. Trout action was for some unknown reason slow in Estero, hot in Pine Island Sound and on fire in Charlotte Harbor. Got water, Got Trout! Shrimp are fat and sassy and perhaps the top bait. Freeline shrimp took snook, snapper, reds and trout in the creeks and around the deadfall.
