Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report
The operative word is "hot"! We are experiencing a very early summer pattern and the water temperatures are already up to the low 80's in Estero Bay. The fishing forecast is excellent for this coming week. Continued warm weather with improving tides will make ‘em bite morning, afternoon and evening.
We've been getting a mixed bag of fish in both Estero Bay and in the nearshore Gulf waters. The backcountry has been producing some nice sized redfish on the higher tides. Live shrimp on jigs as well as just about any cut bait will get their attention. Be sure to use some of your offerings as chum to get them going.
The open grass flats are holding lots of nice sea trout along with ladyfish, bonnethead sharks and the usual catfish. You'll also find an occasional spanish mackerel in the deeper water.
Snook are making their move to the beaches for the summer spawn. They are starting to hold around the mangrove islands close to the passes.
The Gulf started off slow this week but picked up in a hurry once the winds let down. Cut bait, threadfins and shrimp are bringing up a mixed bag of grouper, snapper, spanish mackerel, sheepshead, flounder and sea trout. Keep your eyes open while cruising from spot to spot in the Gulf. There have been quite a few triple tail on the crab pot buoys along with a few free swimming cobia. Have a rod rigged and ready just in case.
