Fishing report for the week ending 11/7 2010
The falls first strong cold front arrived friday changeing the fishing picture for the next week. With water temperature"s dropping, north and east winds and much lower tides this will start us into our early winter pattern. There may be a couple of days to enjoy the end of the bait migration off the beaches, this usually signals the move of the bigger fish to there warmer winter homes. Tarpon either move upriver or south and sharks start thinning out doing there southern migration.
We did get a couple of days last week of southeast and south flow and some good high tides to fish oysterbars. The majority of the redfish I found were either short of the slot or to big. The larger schools of fish had been found by more than one angler and after the weekend"s wind and cold they will begin to find places to stay for the winter months.
There were still good mackerel and bluefish action near the beaches and passes before the front and many of these fish will hang around thru the cooler months. Pompano should begin to show up more frequently which will begin our switch from live shinners to shrimp, plugs and softbaits.
The cooler water always makes for great sea trout fishing, with the fish increasing in numbers and size. With these cooler temperatures and lower tides its time to fish potholes and transitions off the grass flats.
