Fishing is much like 30 years ago/ Few can afford it

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Before speaking of the various species and where they can be caught, allow me to make this observation. Few people, very few people, are fishing. Americans who have worked all of their lives to retire, wet a line, fry a fish or two, are sitting at home. How do I know? The reduction in boat traffic is simply stunning. The corresponding fishing pressure must come as quite a relief for the species. So, if you can afford 15 gallons of gas, milk, bread, and property taxs here is the 411 on where to fish.

Redfish: Things are picking up. Big time. Cut Ladyfish is the key to success. Both sides of the ICW arr producing nice size fish. 2 hours before the ebb and 2 hours after. The earlier in the day the better. If you can't find Ladyfish, try dead shrimp on the larger side. Peel the shrimp for scent. Spray around your boat with Menhaden Oil or Milk. Things have to get ripe if you get my drift.

Trout: GUFC (GiddyUpFishing Charters) have been scoring large trout (+20 inches) under the same schools of glass minnows I've been telling you about for 2 months. Nothing has changed. DOA's, Gold Bagley Spoons, or bucktails work amazingly well. ALWAYS try to position yourself downwind and try as best you can NOT to throw right into the middle of the RUCKUS. Work the sides, the back, the front. Allow the natural dynamic of the fish feeding to work for you instead of launching MORTAR ROUNDS into the feeding.

Snook: The beaches are simply loaded with linesiders. Big Trout are mixed in with them along with some redfish. Once again, if you are wealthy enough to afford the gas for the long run to the beach, please know how lucky you are to be so fortunate.

Tarpon: I'm on some right now and I'm not about to disclose where. Hopefully they will still be in Pine Island Sound on Wed. Amazingly, they have been where I said they would on each of my last 3 charters. These fish are very small. 40-70LB range. They are delightful on light tackle.
