Fresh Water Invasion

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
August 27, 2008
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Gone are the emerald green waters locals and tourists love about SW FL. Pine Island Sound and San Carlos Bay have now taken on the color of weakly brewed coffee. As of this writing, it is ugly, hot, humid, but inshore fishing is above average.

The last 2 GiddyUp Fishing Charters have produced big smiles, big thrills, and some serious rod bending/drag screaming action. My strategy has been to go to all of the passes and fish the flats. Today we absolutely smoked the Mangrove Snapper on MirrOlure Top Water Lures. "She Dogs" were the best performers. Before you say "Oh sure GiddyUp, Mangs on topwater. What pure BS from the guy who guarantees NO BS. Folks, true story. As I've been reporting for the last 2 months, fishing the huge schools of anchovies/glass minnows (or whatever else you want to call them) has been my lunch ticket. Do I fish all of them? No. Only those schools being disrupted from below. These "hot schools" are given away by the white birds that look like immature sea gulls. Hey, I'm no Marlin Perkins and I could care less what their names are but these birds look like midget sea gulls. Anyway and again, under all this ruckus lay the grand prizes. Mangs, Big Trout, and Redfish.

Now we have Gustav to worry about. Should be to windy for my Sat trip. That's about it. GiddyUp
