A Giant Dose of Humility.."N/C GiddyUp Charter"

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
May 30, 2008
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Having used The Good, The Bad, and the Butt Ugly before, such is the title of this report. Many old timers are alledging Gulf of Mexico waters around Sanibel, Ft Myers, and Pine Island Sound are too salty. Too Salty, what the F*** is that all about? Well, Scaled Sardines and Atlantic Threadfin Herring have disappeared. They have pulled a Hank Snow. They have done what you do when the Husband comes home. They have done what the butcher does when his store catches on fire (He grabs his meat and beats it). In other words, Da Bait so critical to my success as a Pro Guide has vainished. Yesterday (May 29. 2008) was ultimate professional humiliation 101.
NEVER DO I FACTOR IN FAILURE AT ANY LEVEL OR AT ANYTHING I DO. MY ACT INCLUDES BACK-UPS FOR THESE VERY DAYS. THE BACK-UPS DID NOT AS WELL.

AT 0530 I arrived at C-Span of the Sanibel Causeway. My Lowrance was marking huge schools of bait under all and around the usual places. My GiddyUp Charter was at 0730. I wondered what I would do after my one throw event. One throw huh? F*** ME RUNNING!!! MAYDAY! I threw a 10FT Calusa 5/8's net at C-Span and B-Span until 7:15 without success. 7 Other Guides were there and the total baits number 4. The only person I heard to have scored righteous bait yesterday was the great Capt Kevin Holley. In my opinion, Capt Kevin Holley and Capt Steve Waugh are as TOP SHELF as any 2 Guides in Florida. Their word is GOSPEL as well. No BS whatsoever with these two great guides.

OPPS: I forgot to mention chumming the flats with fish meal, Cozy Kitten, amd Menhaden Oil before going to C-SPAN as Capt Steve suggested (I always try to call him to squeeze out any 411 possible). 2 Pinfish were yielded from a hole that usually requires 1 throw. Anyway, back to humiliation.

The Director of the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce hooks me up with this charter. In other words, there is going to be accountablility. Pressure? I love it. I want the ball at the end of the game. After proving my medal as a USMC Officer, hell I can part oceans (or so I have always thought). Let's just say I have NO ISSUES with confidence.

Picked-Up the VIP Dudes from Madison, Wi at 0729. Back to C-Span for bait. Same thing. Marking intense schools of glass minnows but this time I can see the little C-Suckers (as there is enough light). Nothing. 32 F-Miles later along the beach, NOT ONE SINGLE BAIT SCHOOL. The Captain makes a decision. This Party is OVER at No Charge (I don't get paid for my effort). Before heading in, we stop at a great Pompano/Trout/Ladyfish bar. A sure thing. The Mustang Ranch of fishing spots. F*** ME RUNNING. Between the 2 young Dudes, they caught 1 F-Catfish. Not even an undersize trout. Nothin'....

So, if you ever have one of these days (like about 7 Pro Guides I know did yesterday) take your medicine like a man. There was simply nothing I can do. "Why didn't you sabiki?" Before you ask, I tried. It was just not meant to be. On this day, I sucked. MLB players make millions for being successful 3 out of 10 times.
Barry Zito of the SF Giants is making 18 Million $$$$$ this year and his record is 1-8. Thank God I do not SUCK as badly as Barry Zito.

Trust me, it was a tough day yesterday. As you know, you get the truth right here. "GiddyUp"

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

If GiddyUp has another day like May 29th, shoot me like a fallen horse. I think the fishing will suck until the bait returns. How can it not?

Target Species:

Tarpon and Snook
