Great Grouper Action

Capt. Ron Kowalyk
August 26, 2016
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore: Too good to be true, Nah!! Same old same old good bites at 60 plus feet. Crews reporting great grouper action with live baits top picks, cut-stuff will do. Trollers are again all over the kings, bonito and big Spanish. Cobia are cruising the close reefs and are stealing pins dropped for snapper and grouper, keep an eye out for surface oriented ling. Topwater plugs have attracted a mixed bag of bully fish, cobia , kings and even grouper. Keep a 20 lb. outfit at the ready for surface action. Lots of lesser ground fish eating shrimp, cutbait and shiners. Scented plastics are coming in handy for Spanish, Ladyfish and jacks around the reefs= easy big bait pick ups.

Backbay: Good reports outa Estero Bay with a hot redfish bite with even hotter weather= shrimp.,pins, shiners, cut ladyfish. My crews found reds outa Punta Gorda and off the Burnt Store Bars= shrimp, cutbait and Gulps. Trout are trying to rebound but the waters still uncomfortably warm for specks= keep trying. Crews in Charlotte Harbor are finding trout around Bokeelia and in the deeper hole at the feeder creeks. Pompano are reported all along the region but they're spotty at best, I seen but haven't popped any?
