Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing report for the week ending 7/17/2011
Pictured above is a 45lb. bull shark that Ed Orinstine caught while fishing a oyster bar. This shark took a shinner under a popping cork in less than 3ft. of water. Ed did a great job landing the shark on 15lb. power pro with a 40lb. florocarbon leader, quite a task considering the shark nearly spooled the reel.
Ed also got this snook and he and his father inlaw both got limits of mangrove snapper for dinner. All were caught free linning shinners. There are plenty of trout, mackerel and small sharks in and around the beaches and passes. Find the schools of bait and you will find the fish.
Larger sharks are also around the passes.
Fishing a two day two boat charter with Capt. Bill Russell in north Matlacha pass there was good snook and redfish action on the high tides around the oysterbars and mangrove shorelines. Live shinners are your best bet.
