Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The weather has been perfect the past few weeks to run out and fish the structures off Ft. Myers Beach. As your heading out look for tarpon rolling or free jumping and set up a drift ahead of the pod. These fish are feeding off of thread herring and crabs. Cast net the thread herring around the bridges and the local tackle shops sell the crabs. Choice of rig is a 6/0 L197 Eagle Claw hook and a 6ft 60# flourocarbon leader. The wrecks are holding some nice flounder and a few small cobia with sharks and mackeral mixed in.

If your fishing inshore look for a healthy grass flat and this is where you'll find the trout. A popping cork with a pilchard will get the job done. Fish the higher stages of the tide for redfish, snook, flounder and jacks. A live pilchard with a 1/0 mutu-lite hook and a split shot 6" above the hook will entice the bite.
