Grouper Trolling is almost OBSENE in 85 Degree Water Temps!!!

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

There has to be a logical reason. Far be it from me to try and figure it out but the GROUPER TROLLING in water 25-35ft in SW FL has been smoking. At 18.00 per pound and a limit of 2, things here remind me of Salmon Fishing on the West Coast.

Today was absolutely unreal. Grouper limits for 3 Professional Hockey Players (who are watching the Playoffs) within 160 minutes.
The key to the whole deal is trolling cross current in the ditches or elevation changes at the bottom of the water column.

For 9 years I spoke at Florida Sportsman Magazine Show on how to troll for "nearshore grouper." We are talking no more than 6 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico. It all starts in about 24FT of water but gets really hot around 28-30.

Why are the Grouperr still here when this dynamic usually takes place in and around the US Marine Corps Birthday (for a month prior to and after) I HAVE NO CLUE. But you know what???? I don't care. My 3 charter customers walked away with 26LBS of grouper fillets and I have flood insurance to pay. WORKS FOR ME!!!

The lure of choice is MirrOLure 111MR in PINK or ORANGE. I'm using Yo-Zuri 60LB Flurocarbon Leader. 175FT behind the boat at 5MPH (which is sometimes not my true speed across the water).... Today my "net speed" was about 4MPH factoring in oppsoing wind and cross current.

6 Keepers for 3 Dudes. Smallest keeper was 27". We did snag our share of shorts but hey, sue me! "GiddyUp"

Fort Myers Fishing Forecast:

Excellent grouper "Nearshore" but Tarpon on Monday

Target Species:

Grouper/Tarpon. After the Snook kill 4 months ago, leave em alone!
