Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Backbay: Redfish continue to chew with the best action in Northern Pine Island (P. I.). Charlotte Harbor is red- redfish hot, lots of overslot fish. My crews managed some slot reds in San Carlos Bay and Estero Bay this week. We had to work and keep to the five minute rule or we'd fall asleep in the late morning heat, just kidding but we did move along with the tide as best we could. Cut ladies, threads and stinky shrimp soaked on a head knocker rig gave us our best results. The generous morning high tides flooded out lots of real estate by midday and the best bite was on the outgoing tides, at least that what we found. Trout were small and finicky on the southern of our region but Charlotte Harbor had a real nice report of slot specks.

The passes offered some fun mixed bag biters for drift and beach fisherman pomps, specks, reds and snook all ate a mess of different offerings. Evening bridge action was reported good from New Pass on Estero, the Caloosahacthee to El Jobean. Big snook and reds were the prime targets.

Capt. Corner: With the early morning high tides, don't leave home without backup"homeboy frozen bait", especially when since cast netting has been a little tough lately. Easy bait patterns with lots of tasty chum can make the day. We found our oily cutbaits, frozen shrimp and sardines effective. When the waters warm the fish are torpor, the tides running hard, yummy chunk baits soaked in one of your favorite notches, meanders or potholes can be a winner. I like to keep it simple!
