Nice Redfish Bite

Capt. Ron Kowalyk
September 16, 2016
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore: Up and running again with caution. Crews reported good grouper action at marks from 20 plus miles out off Boca and Ft. Myers Beach. Snapper continue to be plentiful and hungry, bring Spanish Sardines and a hefty chum bag. Cobia have snagging livebaits and snapper around the chum slick. Kings are mixed in with the big boy Spanish and have bonito for company.Fly guys managed to hookup bonito in the chum slick, gear up with a beater 12-13 wt. nasty stick and homeboy 8 ft. one piece 60 lb. hacker leader, FUN, FUN, FUN. Red and White oversized " Rag Flies". The close mark had a nice mixed bag bite, don't ask me again what mixed bag bite is, guess!! The surf action for snook, reds, sheepies, Spanish can be very good, lots of bait on the beaches.

Backbay: The bays are rebounding after the monsoons, there's some salt back in the bays. Estero Bay had a real nice redfish bite. Trout action is pretty good in Pine Island Sound and reds are on a nice steady chew. Goons continue to maul the snook in Blind Pass, get a life guys! It pretty easy to harelip the Govern over and over again, one and out? Pomps, snapper, ladies, jacks and sharks are all hungry again after the deluge. We had slow going in the Northern regions of Charlotte Harbor outa Punta Gorda, better action around Bokeelia and western Burnt Store Bars. Gotta run!! Weekend weather looks doable but keep an eye on the afternoon weather. Tally Ho!!

Freshwater: Crews found bass, snook, peacocks in Golden Gate, we hooked up bass in Cecil Webb, good oh! Wormies.
