Pine Island Sound, Charlotte Harbor & Matlacha Pass

Capt. Glenn Grimes
April 27, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring snook fishing

The cold fronts are just about over now but fishing for this spring's snook fishing has been excellent.Clients have been landing some really nice snook. This week's largest snook was 31".The snook have been hitting live greenbacks and large threadfin herring.I have been freelining and floating them on a cajun thunder popping cork.Redfish have made an appearance in a big way.Reds to 29" have been caught this past week. The reds are also hitting live greenbacks and shrimp.Redfishing will just get better as the summer goes on.Seatrout are steady with some nice trout were caught last week. Some of these fish were 24".The trout can be caught on the same baits used for snook and reds also on artificials. The tarpon are starting to get hooked up.I am looking for tarpon fishing to be prime time on the first of May.I have been seeing tarpon in the Sound now for the past 2 weeks.I have not managed to stick a hook in one yet. That does it for this week.Thank you Capt Glenn.
