Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
November 15, 2004
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

My 2nd Most Favorite Time of Year is here! The "Nearshore" Trolling has been truly amazing. 3 Limits of Gag Grouper within 3 miles of shore. 22FT of water in and around The May Reef. How hot is it? It is so hot I'm givin' you some boilin' water!!! GiddyUp!

The Lure: MirrOlure 111MR in Green with Silver underside. Another great producer is the Halloween Orange. These lures dive ti 25FT plus without Power Pro. Use 30LB Power Pro (My Favorite) and these lures dive to almost 30FT. The closer the lure is to the boat, the more shallow the dive.

The Fish: I'm laughing at people running 20-30Miles Offshore . It is COMPLETELY unnecessary. You can troll these MirrOlures within 5 miles of shore and score keeper Grouper, Kingfish, Cobia, Big Snook, and Bull Reds. 4-6 MPH speed. Keep your eye out for anyone who is chumming on the reef. Keep your distance and troll the slick.

Be Sneaky! Take the wife or whatever for some 'alone time'. Be sensitive, caring, and in perfect hormony with your femine side then say "Honey, let's drag some lures behind the boat and see if we can catch dinner. I'll cook and do the dishes providing we can make a quick stop and buy Paper Plates. Open the Champagne. Look into her eyes and say "being with you is everything to me." Once you get through all this you are cooking on gas. Simply turn on the clicker to your reel and reel in your baby until a fish hits. Life does not get better than this.

Keep in mind Rods&Reels should not be displayed when leaving for this outing. Fishing appears to be secondary.

And don't worry about telling me how much you love me!

Spanish Mackerel are everywhere. The Big Ones are just offshore. So are the Bonita.

My Hot Tip of the Week: Repower with Honda Marine. I love mine so much I wish I could sleep with it. If people wouldn't talk, I might just do exactly that! GiddyUp!!
