Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
August 1, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

In searching for a proper opening, I have good news and bad news. As my last report was noting but bad news, first the good news. Most of the millions of Dead Fish have decomposed. Sightings of dead fish are therefore the exception not the rule. Now the Bad News: Capt. Kevin (Owner/Inventor) of Sea Claw Anchors reports a new strain of Red Tide North of Boca Grande. Capt. Kevin hit a "brickwall of Red Tide" on an outing to Stump Pass. If this new strain moves South, Pine Island Sound is soon to be screwed, blued, and taatoo'd perhaps by the weekend.

On Sunday, July 30th, my 4HR trip to find Permit on Nearshore Reefs produced nada, zilch, zip. We saw no Spanish. We bounced live and dead bait off Pace's Reef. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

When we came into Pine Island Sound for High Tide, our bait was dead. We took the dead bait, cut it into chuncks, chummed, and waited for some Redfish. We scored 3 Redfish in the 26" to 30" range.

I have cancelled all trips until 15Aug2006. If you have the means and time, take one of Out US Troops on Combat Leave fishing or sight seeing on the water.

Would you love being on the water after spending 6-12 months in Iraq or Afg? GiddyUp! www.operationopenarms.com (OOA does not deal in cash or accept cash from anyone. We simply take Our Brave Troops fishing) jb
