Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
October 30, 2006
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

For Total Clarification, I offer the following. "Inshore is defined as all waters on the East side of the Gulf of Mexico including Sounds, Bays, Passes, Rivers, Creeks, and Ditches."

"Nearshore" is hereby defined as "Those waters from the Gulf Beaches to and whereby land is still visible."

"Offshore" is when you can't see land anymore. GiddyUp

GiddyUp does not go "Offshore" in his 24FT Bay Boat (and I refuse to name the Manufacturer)

"Nearshore" Pace's Reef (about 5.5 miles out of Redfish Pass) is producing some SERIOUS Barracuda. Orange tinted Yo-Zuri Deep Divers brings home the bacon. If you set your Reel Drag on the light side,

get ready for some incredible leeps and runs. These missiles leap to 20FT staright up in the air and put on an amazing show. No big Spanish or King Macks. No Cobia. Went to Mary's Reef. Same story. As we passed 6,000 crab pots, no one Tripletail was spotted. Found a huge piece of cardboard. No 3-tails. Bummer. I thought the Fall Migration would be in full swing. Few birds and NO BAIT SCHOOLS. This was Sunday 10-29-06.

Inshore: If I ever fish a quarter moon again, you have my permission to shoot me and put me out of my misery. In SW FL (and like everywhere else) fish feed on the best tides. "When it ain't movin' they ain't bite'n." Yesterday 10-29-06 we chummed up some Redfish on the incoming tide near Charlie Pass (just north of Redfish Pass also known as The Stumps) with cut ladyfish. We found the ladyfish in Redfish Pass under the birds. No Pompano were found looking for the ladyfish. Redfish were ALL OUT OF THE SLOT. RAT REDS. MOST GUIDES WILL BRAG ABOUT HOW BIG THEY ARE. Opps, I better qualify that. Size is important in fish and everything else. Those who oppose this assertion are full of bananas. SIZE MATTERS. BIG TIME. Big Redfish were nowhere to be found by me but of course I report reality not fantasy.

Snook: Last night we scored 8 snook between 3AM and 5AM. All on Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows in Black/Silver.

The largest was 15 LBS. We hooked several docks, boats, and ropes. The largest was 50Ft Sailboat. Casting at night is like making love in the dark. It is so much easier when you have a good visual! GiddyUp

Opps: Almost forgot. Trout fishing sucks. In front of the "A Frames" by the Sanibel Causeway is producing Puffer Fish to 7" and Lizzard Fish to 8"

Thanks Freshwater from Lake "O"
