Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
September 28, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most species are sucking down most baits at this time in SW FL. You name it, it's out there (except Cobia).

Tripletail have started to show but who can afford to run for them. Gas at all the Marina? $3.65 per gallon.

I will spare you my opinion of Saudia Arabia. This is the fishing info for this week.

The full moon had most fish eating at night. Can't say that I blame them. Snook have been on the beach but tough to find elsewhere. We tried several docks today and got abused by 2 large fish. My charter customers seemed to enjoy it. Not sure what that means or says about them.

At best, the snook action is average.

Trout fishing is ON FIRE! Big Trout. Really Big Trout. DOA Shrimp and a slow retrieve. If you think going to slow, slow down even further. DOA Shrimp are fished with the rod tip. The retrieve is of little consequence. Almost any soft plastic works. Put some electric chickens out there on 1/8oz jig heads. Don't forget to charge the chickens before reuse. Plug em' into any 110

Redfish: Early in the week was easy. Today we caught on 2. The biggest was 24". As you know, I could say we caught 64 Reds in 1 Hour but I would be lyin' now wouldn't I? Yup. 2 stupid Reds all day. I chummed up the area so heavily it was sick. The Reds just never came. So, we went looking for them. That effort turned out as well as my search for Jessica Simpson. It simply didn't happen for GiddyUp. I left NOTHING on the fielf trying.

MANGROVE SNAPPER: Never have I seen the action better. After my charter I caught 2 for dinner. Me and my Dog, Lance Corporal Cooper, enjoyed these great fish lightly dusted in Golden Dip Beer Batter and saute in Olive Oil. Indeed, we had a delightful dinner together. He didn't ask me "How was your day?"

Perfect dinner guest.

Water temps are on the slide. We are finally down to 86. Going for Tarpon tomorrow. I'm getting Hot and Bothered just thinking about it. I know EXACTLY where a pod of 60-80LB small fish are. GiddyUp! (Sure beats watching football)
