Southwest Florida Fishing Report - Bonita Springs to Captiva

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
October 10, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Pine Island Sound is being invaded my Monster Trout! Big Trout. Normally, under the large schools of bait, await Ladyfish. We fished the bait schools yesterday and not once did we score a Ladyfish and we were trying. As you all know, cut Ladyfish are Redfish chocolate. But know this, expect your share of huge & ugly catfish. Topsail Catfish really piss me off. I hate em' but some people love to eat him. Some people swear by them for Tarpon bait soaked on the bottom. I AM STILL WAITING TO CATCH MY 1ST TARPON ON A F-Catfish Tail. As a change in pressure gradient moves down from the North, expect Pine Island Sound to be "ON FIRE" over the next couple of days. Now for the details.

Big Trout: DOA shrimp on a Cajun Thunder. Not just any DOA Shrimp. Pearl with the Redhead. For small trout use 2-3FT of leader. For the bigger fish, go deeper. My Yo-Zuir Pink Fluro Leader is 4-5ft long WITH A BB weight to get er' down. (Sometimes I feel like I write you guys a MAP but this has been a killer lately.) Trout over 22" have been the victims of this deadly combo. Oh, I know what you're thinking. "He is full bull. I'll catch the same fish with DOA Rootbeer of Glow." Oh yeah. Show me! For some reason they have been ALL OVER this Pearl and Red in the 3". I will almost guarantee this color cannot be found at Walmart or tackle shops. You gotta go straight to DOA and get them. If you are too lazy to Google "DOA Lures" please have a nice life. GiddyUp!

Redfish: Pompano Jigs will score ladyfish at Redfish, Captiva, and Big Carlos Pass. Go get these NASTY LADIES and fish them in the bushes. The last 2 hours of the incoming and the 1st hour of the outgoing. Estero Bay is hot right now. Especially the area behind Publixs on Ft Myers Beach.

Snook are offering their full cooperation at night and early in the morning. Topwater Plugs have been doing some serious damage. You must do a slight sexy little twist move. If you don't know how to do this, watch your wife walk across the room after a glass of champagne. If those days over, just go to a strip club and you will get it. I can't explain it but there is a certain little "BUMP" you must know. GO GET EM' COWBOYS! GiddyUp!

PS: www.operationopenarms.com serves Our Brave Troops returning from Combat Tours in Afg and Iraq. We take Our Troops fishing for free via a network of Outstanding Guides. If you are coming to SW FL and wish to fish with a Great Guide, pls consider picking from this list. These guys are not only good guides but DAMN RIGHTEOUS AMERICANS WHO LOVE OUR COUNTRY.
