Marco Island, Ft. Myers & Boca Grande

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Let's get Busy!

It's the time of the year when everything gets busy. The Month of April is just around the corner, which is the time of year when I start fishing seven days a week until the middle of June. The fish are starting to get busy also. The past week has been in the 80's and the forecast for the next 8-10 days predicts temperatures in the mid to high 80's. I believe that it will be less than a week before the tarpon show up in the 10,000 Islands. I have a few days still avaliable in late March so give me a call and I'll give you the low down on the tarpon situation. Other species are also starting to wake up also so great fishing is about to erupt anytime.

Sharks are starting to move into the 10,000 Islands in great numbers. This means that the tarpon aren't far behind. Spinner, blacktip and hammerhead shark fishing has been excellent with live sardines and live ladyfish.

Snook fishing picked up with the use of live sardines which have been hard to come by. When the sardines haven't been available shrimp tipped jigs are still catching pompano, trout and scattered redfish. A few spanish mackerel were also caught and this is another sign the tarpon are on their way. I bet they are here by this weekend!

Good Luck!

More Fishing Reports:

I specialize in light tackle saltwater, and fly fishing from the backcountry of the 10,000 Islands to flats of Pine Island Sound and the bay system of Charlotte Harbor. I have pick-up locations out of Ft Myers, Marco Island, Pine Island, Punta Gorda and Boca Grande. I like to target big fish. During warm months, tarpon, sharks, snook, redfish, cobia, king mackerel and big jacks are the main species sought after. Most of the winter months are devoted to redfish, trout, snook and grouper.
