Ft. Myers - Offshore

Capt. Rick Featherstone
October 4, 2000
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Greetings;

Well sports fans the good news is that the fishing has been fantastic. That said, as I write this it pouring rain and has been most of the night last night. This can slow the inshore fishing considerably. The good news again is that offshore fishing should remain solid.

With the bait migration coming south plenty of spanish mackerel, jacks, ladyfish, tarpon, & sharks have been available along the beaches and out within ten miles. We followed diving birds and had a ball with clouser flies and silver spoons all week. We caught at least one tarpon on each trip also using live baits. On two of our trips our fish count went well over a hundred fish released.

Grouper & snapper fishing remains good if you run thirty miles or more. There is action in closer but if its keepers and action you desire pick your day and make the run. There are still permit on the wrecks along with plenty of cudas to keep your rods bent. Also have a pitch rod ready for a cobia now too as we have been catching lots of these guys lately.

Good luck and see you out there!

Sincerely,

Capt. Rick Featherstone
