Ft. Myers - Offshore

Capt. Rick Featherstone
July 31, 2004
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Variety

Greetings,

Hey fishing friends, life is good! With a new SeaVee 290b delivered and in service our charters are doing better than ever.

Near shore there are tarpon at hand and willing to play. I have found them from Big Hickory Pass all the way to Gasperilla Island. This is typical beach fishing in most situations but bottom fishing for them is working also. There are snook on the beach and near shore structures. Most are very large spawners to take it easy and be sure to get a good release. Live baits are the ticket here.

Offshore it’s a variety pack and changes daily at times. Glass minnows are migrating offshore and pelagic’s are stalking them. Deploying live baits near them will bring strikes but you don’t know what it might be. Smoker kings, Spanish macks, little tunny, blackfin tuna, bull sharks, cudas, or big jack jacks. Permit are not thick but here if you work hard and hit enough spots you will get your shots. Red grouper and as good as I have seen in years over the traditional hard bottom from twenty to forty miles out.

Watch the weather its summer and those skis and light up at anytime.

Bow em’ Up,

Capt. Rick Featherstone
