Ft. Myers - Offshore

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bimini, Bahamas

Greetings,

After two years of canceled trips due to named storms, my wife and I aboard the Magic Hook finally made it to Bimini this past weekend. We were part of a group of boats at the Bimini Big Game Club. We were fishing in the Bimini Extravaganza put on by George Poveromo. The event was first class all the way around.

Day one we fished the reef catching several big yellowtail snapper in seventy feet of water using shrimp and squid strips. We also caught big cuda’s to thirty pounds, triggerfish, hound fish, jacks, cero and king mackerel using the free line method. On the bottom be dropped half a yellow tail snapper to catch several sharks, and a big black grouper.

Day two we trolled lure and strip bait combinations. We released fifty-seven dolphins to ten pounds, a wahoo thirty pounds, cuda’s, and had a very exciting encounter with a blue marlin.

Day three we trolled all day looking for the man in the blue. We caught one small dolphin and that was that.

All in all it was more fun that the law allows. If you get a chance to go, GO. We will be back very soon.

Stay safe,

Capt. Rick Featherstone
