Ft. Myers - Offshore

Capt. Rick Featherstone
July 24, 2007
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Golaith Candy

Greetings,

Well its mid summer and the water is pretty darn warm. Our main targets have been over reefs and wrecks from thirty to sixty feet of water this week.

I was lucky enough to have the same clients all week. Our main target was big Goliath grouper. We hooked and caught them every day. Catching the bait was a challenge though at times. In the mornings we worked the passes and near shore structures for Ladyfish, Jacks, Pinfish, and Threadfins. Later we would use the Pinfish and the threadfins to catch cudas, little tunnies, and a few Gag grouper. We then used the Tunnies to temp the Goliath to pull on our line. We mainly anchored over heavy structured area where we could mark the Goliath on our bottom machine. From there I started a heavy chum line in which Snapper and Spanish Mackerel came to the boat in good numbers. While we iced only a few Snapper for dinner we used the Spanish Mackerel for Goliath lunch also. Our free lined Threadfin caught more Cuda while were playing with the Goliath.

We used live Ladyfish for the Goliath and they worked every time. We also had excellent success with the Spanish Mackerel. Our biggest three Goliath were in the four hundred pound range.

Sincerely,

Capt. Rick Featherstone
