Near Shore / Backcountry

Capt. Rick Featherstone
March 25, 2008
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Greetings,

Fishing the near shore areas on and around the artifical reefs systems has been very productive the last few weeks. Variety has been great. Fishing the water column top to bottom has been key to sucess. Live baits suspended under a kite has brought us kingfish and cobia. Blue runners, and scaled sardines both work. We have been using frozen block chum and live chumming. Spanish mackerel, have been consistant using fre lined small white bait at the same time. We caught a tarpon using the same method. Deploying head knocker rigs and live shrimp the sheepshead, gag grouper, and snapper, have kept us busy waiting for the big bite.
